Sancti Spiritus has several facilities meant for art exhibits, but there is a very particular one which was built in an underground pedestrian crosswalk.
El Paso (The Path) art gallery came out of a 23-meter-long tunnel, under Carretera Central highway, across from the city’s major health institution. The project was developed over four years ago, by local artists Aliosha Diaz and Rafael Gonzalez.
It was inspired by the North American underground culture of the sixties, and is intended to facilitate a quick look of the exhibitions while walking along the path.
The gallery is far from the city’s downtown area; therefore, it’s a possibility for neighbors to get to know some of the local artists’ art work.
