Clay tile roofs, one of Sancti Spiritus’s distinctive features

Ancient Sancti Spiritus features a large quantity of clay tile roofs, especially in the so-called historic area of the town.  But they can also be found in other areas since a lot of houses here were built long ago.

Clay tile roof houses are said to be fresher. Besides, their red color is particularly attractive within the environment of the city. They also have a special look after having been wet by the rain.

This kind of roof is also common in other cities of the province. Trinidad outstands in this respect. That village is as old as Sancti Spiritus, but there are much more clay tile roofs houses over there.

Clay tiles are produced in many different areas of the territory. They are made in different shapes, including very small ones used to decorate the top of the houses’ facades.
