Two hundred and fifty years is quite a lot of time, but it’s even more significant when that amount is multiplied by two. This is exactly the case of Sancti Spiritus, which is said to have been the fourth village founded in Cuba almost 500 years ago.
Despite certain arguments on the issue, the village’s foundation anniversary is celebrated every June 4th. The celebration is always marked with different activities, most of which are held in the so-called historic center of the village.
This year the commemoration turned different since we’re almost on the eve of the 500th foundation anniversary. A special program was scheduled long ago intended both to provide the city with new social facilities, and to improve the ancient buildings and dwellings, of which there are many in the city.
The 500 anniversary celebration is awaited with great expectations. Let’s hope that the village can be preserved for many other years for future generations.
